At Anderton we use Charanga to support our music teaching, this is an online music scheme with lots of visual aids and interactive resources to support your children’s learning about music. Our children love using our new set of glockenspiels and percussion trolley to take part practically in classroom music lessons. Take a look at our music curriculum overview below to find out what units your child will be covering in music this year.
Year 4 children also have the opportunity to learn the violin or cello during their whole class music lessons. This is a fantastic opportunity which often leads to children taking up individual music lessons for that instrument.
Children can also learn to play the keyboard and guitar, which is taught by specialist music teachers.
All children take part in a Key Stage singing assembly once a week where they learn songs related to the season or important festivals. At Christmas the whole school invite parents to join us for a Christmas sing-a-long to share the songs we have been learning and Key Stage 1 put on a nativity play with lots of singing and dancing.
To support our music teaching and provide engaging opportunities for our pupils, we often invite guests into our school. As well as having guests into school we also take groups of children out of school to take part in Young Voices and the Big Sing.
Our choir perform at key school events: Open Evening, Christmas Fair and the Summer Fair.
