Enrichment

At Anderton we believe it is very important to extend learning outside of the classroom and ensure our pupils feel a valued member of the wider community. We also feel that these links will help benefit pupils’ individual needs and help them to gain independence.

We encourage all of our students to get involved with the Enrichment activities and clubs as we feel that they are valuable and provide enjoyment as well as enhancement to their school life and education.

Enrichment helps students to develop their interests and abilities, provides valuable learning experiences outside their studies, and promotes independence and inter-personal links with students in other year groups.

Our students work hard, enjoy life and celebrate their successes.

On Wednesday 21st February we had a whole school yoga day where every class participated in a yoga session with a qualified instructer.

Year 6 love ‘buddying’ up with our reception children.  They love hearing them read, helping them with work on seesaw and enjoyed helping them look through microscopes.

On Thursday 22nd February 2024, Jen Carney, author and illustrator, came into school to work with Year 4, 5 and 6. The children were very engaged in the workshop and lots of children asked some challenging and thoughtful questions.  All children were given the opportunity to buy Jen’s book that she signed.  Thank you Jen Carney.  For more information about Jen and the novels she has written, please visit her website:https://jen-carney.com/

We had special guests in assembly on the 23rd May. Adlington Mayor, Beverly Speers and some of her colleagues, came into school to talk about the upcoming Jubilee celebrations and the role of Mayor.
A few weeks ago, all the children in school entered a competition to draw a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. These were sent to the council and judged by the councillors.
Our winners:
Reception: Aiyla
Year 1/2: Jessica
Year 3/4: Idris
Year 5/6: Harry
Special mention: Mia
Well done to all the winners. Their work will be on display at Adlington Community Centre.
The Mayor, Beverly, would like all the children to display their portrait in their front window during the celebrations. Their work will be given back out by the end of the week.

Thanks to the PTFA, we were able to create an allotment. Mrs Lea has been working with different year groups to plant flowers and vegetables. Every year group has there own planter to look after.

Different year groups regularly visit our local church- St Paul’s as part of our RE curriculum.

Every half term we have theme days. In November the whole school celebrated Remembrance Day to show our respect. Above is our fabulous whole school display.

We enjoyed celebrating World Book Day as a whole school. We love our parade to show off our amazing costumes. During the day we celebrate our love of reading and share our favourite books.

Year groups regularly enjoy trips to enhance our curriculum.

Year 1 learnt lots during their Victorian Day linked to their history unit.

Year 2 had a fabulous Explorers Day as part of their history unit on Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus.

Ks1 confidentially performed their Christmas play to the whole school and their parents.

We are very lucky to have a Forest School area to enhance our curriculum.

Our talented children represent Anderton in a variety of sporting events.

KS1 children enjoyed the Zumba club.
